The Government propose to reform local government in #Cambridgeshire. A good and easy thing to do would be to abolish the Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP).
The GCP is the organisation behind the hated (put on pause) congestion charge in #Cambridge.
As our Mayor has failed to deliver a vision on transport - the GCP grew to fill that void. It has wasted millions on ill-fated schemes like the congestion charge and (although some councillors sit on the Board) no one has voted for it. It loathes transparency and avoids scrutiny.
It’s time to abolish the GCP - and give its responsibilities to the Mayor and the Combined Authority. If I am Mayor - I have plan to get Cambridgeshire and Peterborough moving.
- Rule out road charging forever - and end the war on the motorist.
- Dual major roads like the A10 and A47
- Connect our three Cities and towns by much quicker and more frequent rail
- Light Rail for Cambridge
- Reform bus routes that better integrate our towns with our villages
