As a Conservative, I do not like tax increases - but because of the global pandemic, NHS waiting lists and the need to reform social care - this has to happen.
But...this should only come with a plan for reform, new pathways and innovation. The NHS can no longer simply demand more money, capacity and a new plan every few years. Productivity is as important as cash.
This is difficult - but it’s a plan. We have grasped the nettle on waiting lists and social care. Labour’s alternative is no plan.
