The Government is taking decisive action to Stop the Boats. My question in the House of Commons today. 🙏
We have a proud record of welcoming migrants. Especially in #Peterborough. Most recently schemes in Afghanistan, Hong Kong, and Ukraine have meant thousands have come to the UK. 😊
But no country in the world could possibly manage thousands of undocumented people landing on their shores week in - week out. The Bill will:
👉 Ensure those who come here on small boats can’t claim asylum
👉 Save lives! It will act as a deterrent. People will no longer die in the Channel
👉 Destroy the business model of the vile people smugglers
👉 Ensure the Home Office is focussed on migrants who come here by legal means
👉 End the shocking conversion of (often premium) hotels to hostels to accommodate migrants
Labour’s open border plan will not do any of this.
Stop the Boats - this the compassionate thing to do.
