Scotland and Northern Ireland get holidays for St Andrew’s Day and St Patrick’s Day, but here in England our national saints day is not.
There have been many discussions over time about the merits or otherwise - and often the cost to business is cited as a barrier. There have also been other proposals mooted, such as moving the May bank holiday forward.
Labour went into the 2019 election with a manifesto commitment to make St Georges Day a bank holiday, which Sir Flip-Flop Starmer has now u-turned on.
